This afternoon, on Tuesday, April 16, the American Whig-Cliosophic Society hosted a lecture and question and answer session by the author and renowned political scientist Charles Murray.
The lecture was entitled “Coming Apart at the Seams: America’s New Cultural Divide,” and it was co-sponsored by College Republicans, the Princeton Tory, and the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.
In his well-attended talk, Murray focused on the topic of his most recent book, Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010.
He discussed what he perceives as the divergence of two American classes  – an elite class and a middle/lower class – whose experiences are becoming much more diverse in modern America. Murray particularly focused on the issue of marriage, hard work, and religiosity. After his talk, Murray participated in a thoughtful discussion with students and other attendees. This valuable event was emblematic of the high level of political and social discourse that Whig-Clio is instrumental in orchestrating in the Princeton Community.
